Heritage Behavioral Center Providing behavioral health and substance abuse counseling in the Collin County, northern Dallas County, and Denton County areas of Texas since 1986.

Here’s What All Those Initials Mean...

D.O.T.

The United States Department of Transportation. The D.O.T. regulates any industry involved in interstate transportation, whether by land, air or sea. When an employee of a D.O.T. regulated company fails a drug or alcohol test, he or she must present to a D.O.T. Substance Abuse Professional for evaluation, assessment and referral for education and/or treatment. The offender then returns to the Professional for a followup evaluation to determine whether or not he/she may be considered for return to safety-sensitive duties by the employer. Miles Morrison, LCSW, DCSW, SAP, is a D.O.T.-qualified Substance Abuse Professional. He evaluates airline employees, truck and bus drivers, airline mechanics and flight attendants, and pipeline workers, to name a few.

S.A.P.

The designation assigned to a D.O.T. Substance Abuse Professional by The NAADAC Certification Commission. In order to attain this designation, the Professional must take a 12-hour course every three years. The initial awarding of the designation requires the successful passing of a 100-question examination with a minimum score of 80. Expert knowledge of the assessment and treatment of substance abuse and addiction, as well as thorough knowledge of the rules and regulations related to D.O.T. are both necessary.

L.C.S.W.

Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Each LCSW has graduated from an accredited masters program in social work, and has passed two state-mandated tests. This license is the highest level attainable, and allows the licensee to practice and collect insurance and employee assistance program payments.

D.C.S.W.

Diplomate in Clinical Social Work. This honor is bestowed upon L.C.S.W.s who have fulfilled the education and training, and experience requirements established by the Competence Certification Commission of The National Association of Social Workers.

L.P.C.

Licensed Professional Counselor. Each LPC has graduated from an accredited graduate program in the behavioral health spectrum, and has experienced over 3,000 clock hours of clinical treatment in order to qualify to take a state mandated test.

B.C.P.C.

Board Certified Professional Counselor. This honor is bestowed upon LCSWs and LPCs by the American Psychotherapy Association after the professional has met educational, experiential, and peer recommendations.

L.M.F.T.

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Each L.M.F.T. has completed a graduate program in a behavioral science, has completed the necessary internships, and has passed a rigorous state test to attain this license. The license is renewable at regular intervals, determined by the State of Texas, and requires the completion of ongoing continuing education units each licensing period. Doctors Morrison and Jones are L.M.F.T.s.

H.I.P.A.A.
