About Heritage Behavioral Center
Our History...
Heritage Behavioral Center was created by Dr. C. Jane Morrison and Dr. Rebecca Jones in 1986 in East Plano, and was originally known as Heritage Center For Mental Health. As a fledgling agency, Heritage served the needs of Child Protective Services clients who were victims of abuse and neglect. As managed care came into being, Doctors Morrison and Jones became two of the earliest providers for many of the employee assistance programs and insurance carriers, serving employees and families of major employers of Collin County.
As their reputation grew, and demand for their services exceeded their capabilities, Miles Morrison resigned as director of clinical services for Charter Hospital to join the practice in 1998. He was followed by a number of seasoned professionals and a growing support staff. HBC now employs three full time administrative staff, six full time licensed clinicians, and three part-time professionals. We continue to seek the best clinicians to join us as demand dictates. HBC moved into its current offices in 2000. The offices have been expanded three times to accommodate our growth. HBC currently serves the needs of thousands of employees and citizens of Plano, Southern Collin County, Northern Dallas County, and Denton County.
It’s All About You...
When you need us, we are available. If a crisis arises after hours or on weekends, our emergency phone is manned by one of our clinicians who has been trained in, and has worked in, crisis intervention situations. We believe that the most successful clinicians are those who have worked in acute care facilities at some point in their careers. When you read our bios on the Meet Our Therapists Page, you will see who has been on the front lines of mental health care.
For our clients who prefer faith-based counseling, many of our clinicians have been active in our own faiths, and will provide appropriate care to meet your needs.
Our Theory Of Treatment...
We believe in practical, effective therapeutic techniques. Our belief is based on the theory that our actions and thoughts determine our feelings. And that is good news. It means that we can restructure our feelings by restructuring our actions and behaviors. Our techniques have been shown to be more effective than other general therapeutic practices. Our therapy and counseling is therefore based on what is commonly known as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
The end result is that you and your therapist will collaborate on a plan to help you help yourself. We believe that in many cases, you will be involved in therapy for a short period of time. Feel free to look up cognitive behavioral therapy online, and see how it will fit your needs.
Continuing Education...
Each HBC professional must complete 30 hours of approved continuing education units in each two-year licensing period. Many of our clinicians exceed the minimum requirements. In addition to the licensing guidelines, HBC staff meet each month for a two-hour meeting to discuss cases and to update their skills in pertinent clinical areas as well as HIPAA regulatory changes.
Individual peer review consulting is also scheduled to allow each of us to gain additional insight. This enables us to assure you the best possible treatment outcome. Additionally, all of our therapists are voluntarily members of OptumHealth Behavioral Solutions’ Campaign For Excellence, a national movement that provides transparency in quality therapeutic outcomes. Miles Morrison is one of three clinicians in the United States to be a member of the CFE Committee
